Look at the resale on the same yaer with the same milage and see if there is more than 3 three grand differance. This should make the decision easy! I own three diesels. JMO
Well, I am hardcore Diesel, what should I say. I wish they would offer the mid size trucks with diesel engines. There is nothing out there, besides the Jeep Liberty and Isuzu Pup.
To be honest I don't like the idea of either vehicle...
I have not heard too many good things about the 6.0L when they start to have problems. On the flip side, don't you know how rental cars are treated???? I'd never touch one personally but thats just me.
Yeah!! I would not buy let's say a cavalier or similar car.
But when you're talking over $100/day to rent a EX..You're getting a different breed of renters..Most likley Corp. people who have to shuffle a group. I would not be at all hesitant about the rental..
Big Rig is exactly right. You dont have to worry too much about if a teeny bopper has been rawhiding the hell out of an Excursion rental. Mine came from the Hertz fleet and was in immaculate condition. Just do your homework before you buy one. Have the dealer include additional keys and fobs (programed of course),owners manual and materials and the ever popular thread on here........ the keypad code included in the deal. These are small things for the dealer and most wont let them stand in the way of the deal. Be sure to inspect it thoroughly, however, for signs of crash damage/fixs. The large rental companys self-insure so they either fix crash damage themselves or have a proshop they use do the repairs. This won't show up on Car-fax reports.
We had 2005 Excursions at the dealer with front coils on the 4 wheel drive units. I tried to trade my 2000 Ex v10 in with 50,000 miles in perfect shape and they would not even give 10,000 for it. This was a all blk unit loaded with every option you could put on it. They sure did not want to sell it. That was May of 2005. Last month they offered me 12,000 on trade toward a Ford Five Hundered. I have found many of the 2005's with coils on the front. They would have to handle better.

The Excursion never got the coil spring set up on the 4x4 like the SD did.
