96 Explorer sport, Control Trac, 5 spd. Just changed the t/c fluid hoping it would correct the non operating 4x4. Well during the test drive in 4x4 hi, I heard and felt a big thump from under the truck, and the 4x4 bound up during a turn. Got back home and now there's a crack in the rear of the transfer case at the drain plug and it's dripping fluid. So due to limited money (retired) I'm thinking I could remove the t/c and go to the 2wd drive set up. Can anyone tell if this can be done and what parts I would need? Or maybe sell the Explorer and maybe get $1500.oo for it?
Comments?????????
Let me know which of these you have, I can get you a transfer case easily and very affordable compared to most. I own a salvage yard and have electronic access to over 1800 other yards. So I get to see the lowest price out there.
