Uncooperative Blinker
I have a 1997 F-250HD 5.8L with 119000 miles.
A few days ago, the blinker stopped working for a while, then started working again, then stopped.
Today, while the truck was turned off sitting in my driveway, and the blinker lever was in the neutral position, the left blinker started blinking. No matter how I move the lever, the left blinker won't quit blinking, and the right blinker won't blink at all.
I removed fuse 7 from the fuse box (the 'turn lamp' fuse), and the blinker kept blinking. I removed the flasher module, and it kept blinking. In fact, I removed every fuse from the fusebox, but nothing would stop the blinker from blinking.
I'm at a loss as to what could be going on. Anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping to avoid taking the truck to the dealer, as I suspect any repair will cost me more than the value of the truck.
Thanks,
Sam
If the flasher is not the problem, you will probably end up replacing the multi-function switch that incorporates the turn signals and everything else.

Is there a good way to test the functionality of the flashers?
Presumably because the blinker was flashing, voltage was being applied. That would imply that the real problem is upstream, right? I put a voltmeter across the contacts in the fusebox for the right flasher. I assume proper functionality is 12V when either the blinker or hazards are on. However the voltmeter registered 12V only when both the blinker and hazard were on.
Thanks,
Sam
