Winterizing Motorcycle

I went for what may have been my last ride of the year... since once the snow starts flying, there's usually not too many days that the roads aren't covered in snow or ice.

Been thinking about this for a couple of weeks and did some looking around today; I found a couple links and since this is my first bike, I was wondering what everyone elses routine was.

I have a couple of questions; is the fuel, with the stabilizer in it ok to run in the bike, come spring? and, if there's fuel stabilizer in the fuel, do I need to drain the carb bowl.

not a bike, but i run stabilizer through my boat with no probs, pull the battery, and depending on where you store it, try to prohibit mice from building nests in the exhaust system

A snowmobile mechanic I know suggests running a shot of stabil through a few times during the season to help keep things clean inside the engine. He says it will remove the brown glaze you sometimes see on the pistons during a teardown.
I used to like to pull the pipes and douse the insides with wd-40 to help keep them from rusting.

I've had motorcycles for many many years and the winterization I do is not complicated. I don't always succeed but I try to ride mine a few miles every few weeks to get fresh fuel in the carb. and keep the battery charged. I fill the gas tank and add stabalizer to it. The instructions say to not drain the carb. if you use stabalizer and I don't. If you don't have a full or almost full tank, you will get condensation and if you have a steel tank, you can get rust inside. I burn the stabalized gas the same as I butn any other gas. I also store my bike on the center stand to take the weight off of the tires and springs. If I don't get to ride the bike often, I charge the battery overnight with a trickle (1 amp) once a month. Some people get a battery maintainer such as a Battery Tender to keep the battery charged. I keep my bike in my insulated garage that gets very cool but never freezes. Motorcycling is a incurable disease. It may go into remission on occasion but it always comes back. I have gone into remission 3 or 4 times over the last 40 years but I finally realized I was incurable so I keep my BMW Airhead and will probably have it when I die.
