When performing a oilchange on my truck it has not been changed in a while and I was wondering if a flush at 165000 would be good or bad. I also want to know what would be the best oil to throw in there. also it leaks fairly good. so synthetic is outta the question since its a thinner oil. and should I m aybe run a quart or two through the block after its done draining???
Well I have run full synthetic (Valvoline) in my truck since about 100,000. I now have 265,000. I tried to cheapen it up and put regular Castrol in it last oil change and have noticed alot more noise(lifters and such) I also started having an issue with oil pressure since then. I am going to change the oil again (after 3 weeks) and put synthetic back in. I hope everything goes back good again. I did use a Motorcraft oil filter too.
You can try Seafoam. Many people swear by it. I use plain 10-30, whatever's on sale for my truck... I usually leak out a good qt or two before I change it again...
Also, always use the FL-1A Motorcraft filters. Purelator would be another choice. The brand "F" filter is Junk IMO. I begin to get lifter noise on startup after 1000 miles with the brand "F" filter. No problems with the Motorcraft filter.
Use 10w-30, it's pretty universal in most Ford Motors. If you live someplace that gets extremly cold, you might stick with 5w-30. If you are going to run a quart of oil through simply to clean the motor, stick with something like Seafoam or a similar product, not more oil...that's kinda wasteful. Like everyone is saying...motorcraft oil filter all the way. I've used Fram in the past, didn't have a problem...but then again the Big 6 is too stellar to notice a difference.
The 300-6 is a steller motor... You have to work hard to kill one. I've tried... and failed... It's probably the best truck motor ford ever made. Now if it only sounded like a V8...
I like Puralator and Fleetgard filters. I try and run 10-40 due to the heavy loading and the weather at home normally doesn't get down into the 30s. My 7.5 has over 270K with no troubles yet.
