Hello,my 04 escape need frt.brake pads. The dealer said they may be able to slide in the rotors under warranty, for about $100 for the job.I was thing of taking a peek at them myself, any suggestions?I'm a backyard mechanic, and have done a few brake jobs over time, any tricks or things I shoul be wary of doing this one, thanks Al. Oh,any kind of suggestions on relieving the brake dust?
Nonono the dealer is right.. the original rotors on these are junk.
It's a new brake "design" and simply put.. the pads are harder and the rotors are softer... they are actually designed to contantly "resurface" the rotors as you stop to eliminate warpage.. drawback is the rotors typically cannot be reused. (If you look at your rotors you'll see a raised edge.. it's the part where the pads did not contact the rotor and therefore did not wear down the rotor. I've seen a difference of as much as 1/8th of an inch, and that's a lot by brake rotor standards!
Get yourself a pair of good quality aftermarket rotors and some ceramic pads, and this won't happen again. The hardest part of the brake job is getting the hold down clip back on properly, but whatever you do.. DO NOT LEAVE IT OFF.
Thanks for the info guys, there 17,000 miles on it.The wife drives it,so thats why it needs brakes already. She trying out for Bristol raceway next year.Hey,do you recommend a nice match for the rotots and pads, thank you,Al.
