Dewayne, the panel is coming along ok. Paul, my son, painted it Honda Electron Blue, a nice mid-blue/purple color.
With the stainless bumpers, visor, and emblems it looks real nice, a semi-retro look.
This frame (the 3rd I had under the panel/thank the Lord for a carport!)
has the Volare IFS. We just bought a nice used late 60s truck 9inch rear with a 3.56 ratio. It has the big bolt pattern 5x5 1/2, and the Volare is, of course, the 5x4 1/2.
I was wondering if someone marketed drilled rotors in the big pattern, which I assume would be better than adapters.
I might get a set of 17 inch wheels for it, and was looking ahead.
Do you think adapters would be better choice?
I'm sure your truck is doing fine. I'll have to check your site for pics. Hope you might bring it to PF this May. Any chance?
I am getting close but PF is probably a little optimistic. Won't have much good weather to shake the bugs out before the 15 or so hour ride, don't want to make the grand entrance on a trailer or wrecker We'll have to see. You'll have to post pics of the panel here sometime.
I highly recommend you do not use adapters. I don't think they are safe. Not sure you could redrill Volare rotors to 5 1/2 without some heavy machine work. Wish mine were off so I could look at the backside. It would not hurt to ask local machine shops. I think your two choices aer drill the rears. Your old truck now has a 9 inch too. I paid $90 to have the rear axles and drums re-drilled. I think that was a little high. Or you could buy new rims of course. Two of each bolt circle. There are a lot of wheel manufacturers that will make them just the way you want them. For a little extra money of course. If you redrill the rears, your wheel options will be much better and somewhat cheaper. 5 1/2 pattern is less common for custom wheels. Big mudder style rims excluded of course.

Hey Paul,
I just drove from Dayton, Ohio to Williamsburg and back in the past 36 hours (son's in college out there and brought him home for Thanksgiving). You aren't in the western mountains I gather 'cus there was at least a little snow on the ground when I drove back through at O-dark-thirty (as the military folks like to call early in the morning)!
I am a "token Yankee" from NW Indiana, long living in Virginia. Most in the DC area, but, for the past 10 years in Waynesboro, which is in the Shenandoah Valley, about 30 miles west of Charlottesville, about 10 miles from the intersection of I64 from Richmond and I81.
You'll have to look me up if you're out this way again. I have a small business, a ceramic tile store called Tile Visions, which is in the Waynesboro Village Shopping Center just off exit 94 of I64!
Oh...having said all that, we haven't had any snow. The great thing about living here is that the big northern snows usually miss us by 80 or more miles, and the ones fm Kentucky/W Va usually peter out in the Allegheny Mtns, which are the state line, about 60 miles due West of here. The snows which get us are the ones from the SW, heading up fm Tennessee towards NY direction.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-02 AT 08:51 PM (EST)]Ah, yes! Waynesboro! I remember driving past it twice - once eastbound and once westbound!
I'll take you up on your offer, Paul, to stop by on Monday if you're store is open! Gotta make that long two-way haul again Sunday and Monday to get my son back for the rest of the school term.
Do you know off the top of your head which model cars are likely to be the correct length for 57-72 F100 differential? I would think it's a short list. Car Nine inch rears are getting very scarce around here.
'Fenders, Iam useing a 9" from a 80 lincolnVersaills It is 58 inches wide. If you go to www.fordmuscle.com tech section, there is an excellant list of facts, widths, types, and a list of cars 9" diffs can be found in.

Thanks for the URL. Paul already has a 57-72 F100 rearend installed. (I don't remember the width of mine). I guess what I was asking is, aren't the odds of finding the proper width axles in a car going to be very small? I would assume they need to be almost exactly the same to be used in his rear end.
To switch to the 5 on 4 ½” car bolt pattern - Use two driver’s side axles, both side backing plates and drums from 72-79 Torino, Ranchero, LTD II or 77-79 T-bird or Cougar on/in the truck axle housing.
Ferguson beat me to it. I have measured the axles he is talking about and they are the right length. We have not installed them as of yet. You will have to find 2 donor cars as you need the driver's side axle. If you decide to switch to the car's backing plate, make sure you get a passenger side backing plate too. Didn't think of that till I was home from the junkyard.
DO NOT USE ADAPTORS!!! They are very unsafe. I did a long time ago and they broke. Not fun dropping a show vehicle on it's rotors as the custom wheel continues down the road.
