Good morning, I was wondering if any one new of a sway bar or anything to help the handling of a 66 f100 shortbed? mine feels like the body is not going around curves with the chasis. thanks I have really enjoyed reading these post
Steve, there are aftermarket suppliers that make a sway bar for the F100's but your best bet would be from Ford. The 73-79 trucks were available with a swaybar from the factory. Most of them were on Camper Specials. The front suspension is pretty much the same from 65-79. The power steering and disk brakes from the later models will bolt into your truck. If you find one with the sway bar, be sure to grab the radius arms that locate the twin I-beams. They have been notched to clear the sway bar mount.
The Junkyard Store is probably the cheapest way to do this. However, Addco does make aftermarket sway bars for those who prefer to go with new, clean, poly-bagged parts with urethane bushings. Good quality stuff. I think a front bar goes for around $125.
Before doing that, however, I'd make sure all your bushings are in good shape, including the leaf spring bushings. Sloppy bushings will make for some 'interesting' handling characterstics.
