I have been stranded without my truck for almost 2 months now and I am going out of my mind waiting the last 3 days until the parts arrive. All I need is my main/rod bearings and gasket set to come in. The guy across the street from me owns a 65 F-100 in almost stock form. We were talking earlier and he asked why he hasn't heard the grumble of my truck in a while. That was kind of painful to explain. I plan on taking my sweet time putting it all together but I want to get started. Augh, only 3 more days! Did I mention that?
I've gone through the whole engine bay and cleaned it up alot by hiding all the wires under the fenders. I even swapped out my redneck battery hold down, bunjee cord. Repaired the leaking heater core. The tube was flat on one side from something or other. Put the radiator over flow under the drivers fender. Placed the horns in front of the radiator. Plumbed a set of custom aluminum tube transmission/cooler lines. Welded a set of mounting tabs on my radiator to hold it in place on the core support vise the large zip-ties. The onlt thing I am waiting to do is make some 7/16 stainless steel fuel lines. I don't have the engine in yet so I can't see clearances.
Ok that was the extent of feeling sorry for myself. I will most likely be another month before I am ready to drop the engine in.
Hey Mark, at least your staying busy attending to your baby, she'll be happier when you put the engine back in. Do you have a support group in your area? just kidding, hang in there the wait will be worth it.
Last night after I posted this I went out to pull the inner valve springs off to prep for the cam break in. I discovered the on head valve spring compressor I have wont grab all the springs. My wife was kind enough to pick it up while she was out and I don't have the heart to tell her it is wrong one. So now I am waiting to swing by one of the part places to see if they rent the big one. Working nights really bites when you have time to do work but the availability of tools is lacking. Oh well, it's not like I can get any closer without the right tools or parts.
Looks like your making great use of the down time LOL/...It was almost a 8mo long stint for the 352 in the ole 66 between paydays, machinists work schedule, UPS tracking, and various other SNAFU's ..luckily the Glasspar kept me busy..hoping to have both roadworthy next summer. It'll be on the road soon enough and done right.. keep at it..
