Fuel Leak
I just bought a '93 F150 with the 4.9L. The previous owner had mentioned that the front tank had a leak, but he believed it was near the top of the tank. I've been trying to run that tank completely out of gas with the hopes of replacing it soon. I believe that there isn't more than a couple gallons left in the front tank. However, I filled up the rear tank today, and noticed the odor was worse than before. I looked beneath after driving home and there was fuel dripping steadily from the front tank area. Could this be indicative of a leaking fuel line as I believe the level in the front tank is very low (i.e., not near the top where the previous owner said there was a leak)?
Thank you in advance for any help you can lend!!
You need to stick something into the filler neck to see how much fuel is actually in it.
If the check valve in the pump assembly is bad (kinda common), then fuel will be pumped from the rear tank to the front. This will fill it up to the leak.
If this is the case, you need a new fuel pump assembly for the front tank.
Another question: Is a front tank from an '89 F150 compatible with a '93 F150? In other words, could I easily pull the leaky front tank from the '93 and put in a viable front tank from an '89 F150?
Thanks again in advance!

So, after a little investigating, it appears that there was a recall on this very part (check valve) for the '93 F150. Same exact symptoms as I'm experiencing with mine. The recall was waaaaay back in 1993. This is sort of a shot in the dark, but is there any way that Ford would honor this recall today? I'm guessing that enough time has elapsed where they would not. But if I have to get it fixed, is it worth my time to ask them about the recall?
Thanks again in advance!
