Question Empty fuel filter

I have a 94 F-350 with a 96 DI 7.3. The fuel filter light came on and I changed the filter(it was black) and drove about 5 miles and the light came on again and then about 2miles died and would not start. I removed and drained the tank, blew out the fuel lines, put in 5 gals. of clean diesel and filled the fuel filter and started the truck, drove it about2 mi. and the light came on and shortly died. I removed fuel filter cap and pulled the filter out and it was almost empty. Before I drove it ,I checked the fuel preasure at the fpr and it was bouncing 40 to 50 psi. I have dual tanks but I don't think its the splitter. I'm thinking fuel pump.
any ideas?
Steve

Thanks.
Did your filter light come on too just before it died?

hey 1997 F-350, I drained the filter, pulled #9 fuse and tried to turn it over, nothing. Just a bunch of clicking going on under the hood. I put the fuse back in, same thing. What happenedd!
