I am no longer a happy 6.0 owner. Have a 05 PSD and problems began with a high pressure lube oil leak which required removal of turbo. In the last 5,000 miles the hose clamps from turbo to aluminum intercooler tube have failed 3 times while towing. . Needless to say you don't go very far under that condition especiallly while going up a 6% grade. All three times resulted in a tow to the dealer since I wouldn't leave the trailer by the side of the road.
The first failure broke the steel band connecting the rubber tube "for want of a better word" to the aluminum tube in two. The second the threads on the new clamp were stripped. The third failure was the clamp between the turbo and rubber tube but there were no visible problems with the clamp. There have been no apparent turbo overboosts. I know this was a problem on the early 6.0s. Anybody have any suggestions? Since the nuts on the clamps have the nylon inserts I'm wondering if they should be replaced whenever they're loosened as that may reduce their holding power and engine vibrations may result in their backing off a hair.
Right now I have no confidence in the engine. After the last failure I drove the last 1,500 miles by not letting the turbo go over 20psi.
I would say the hose/clamp problems are a direct result from the hpop repairs. Those clamps have to be removed to do that work. The previous dealer may have overtightened or installed the hoses incorrectly.
