i have an 81 f-150 with a 302.. the truck has great compression, doesnt smoke, but has very excessive crankcase pressure.. i've changed pcv, cat, everything i can think of and nothing helps.. anysuggestion?
Make sure the PCV valve has plenty of vacuum when idling. The hose going to the PCV and the PCV plate under the carb, if yours has one, are bac to stop up with carbon. This will lead to 10,000 oil leaks from too much positive crankcase pressure.
Also check the oil filler cap where the engine gets its fresh air for clogging.
I cleaned the PCV plate and hose for a guy with a '79 F150/302. His truck had about 150k miles at the time, and he was going to get a new engine because of oil leaks and oil useage.
After the cleaning he drove the truck for 5 more years, putting about 250k on it before giving it to his son.
Thanks.. i'll be sure to check that before I put it back together.. I tore it down in frame and did find some light scratches in the cylinders.. i'll be sure to check it before rebuilding. do you know where i can get torque specs online for it?
