Having some problems with Navigator

I drive a 99 navigator 4x4 5.4L 105,000 miles. I have never had any major problems with the navi, but about a week ago when I acclerate hard ( throttle 75 80% ) it starts to do a kind of jolting motion. I don't know really know what words to use to properly describe the problem. Also when I am in 3rd gear if i go maybe 50% throttle it won't accelerate the Navi starts shaking ( or vibrating ), but when I push the pedal to 80% it accelerates fine with minor jolting. Then about 3 days ago the service engine light came on, it turned off about a day later. I haven't had the time to it in to the shop to get it checked out. So, if anyone has some ideas what might be wrong it would be very helpfull.

Hi and welcome to the forum

When the check engine light turned on it should have set a diagnostic trouble code in the vehicle's PCM (computer).
You'll need to take it and get it scanned to see what the code is. Some places such as Autozone will do that for free. Just don't let them sell you any parts until you're sure what it needs.
Chances are pretty good it's just a spark plug or COP (coil on plug) problem causing a misfire.
How many miles on the plugs?

Not, really, sure how many miles are on the plugs. We bought the navi in 2001 my mom took care of it till ast year then gave it to me so, all I know is that it had regular oil changes and a tune up before the warranty expired maybe 2 years ago. Yeah I'm taking care of it better than she did. Thanks for the help I'll try and take it in on monday.
