I have a 1979 Ford F-100 With a 1982 Mustang 302 HO Mated to a 73 F-100 eaton Transmission (the one with reverse towards the glove compartment)..ok here is my question ..Do anyone know what rearend would match this 73 F-100 eaton tranny .. The 79 swb had a automatic tranny in it before it went bang!!The way it is now it revs 3000 rpm at high way speed..I think it should rev about 1800 to 2000 rpm at highway speed...Any info would really help!!!What gears in rearend do i need????
well i do must all highway driving & i will look at the rear to see if i can get the number off it..the rear end thats in it,is for an automatic tranny that come with the truck..It revs way to high to get any kind of gas milage out of the old truck!
When I first got my '78 F-100, it had a four-speed with a "granny" first gear. I Don't know if that's the same trans that you have, but the rear end in mine had 2.75 gears in it! Kinda sounds like that's what you need.
To find out what rear end you have, check the manufacture plate on the edge of the driver side door. look under the heading of axle and it will give you a code. Then, just match the code up in a manual.
