I want to add a tachometer to my 4.0L. I have done this before on a 3.0L, but I am guessing that the EDIS system has a tach connector that can be used. Can anyone tell me exactly where it is?
on a '93 it's the Tach Test Connector C145
1 wire plug taped to wiring harness above driver valve cover at top of fire wall just below hood seal
T/V tan/violet wire from Pin 4 of PCM and pin 2 of the ICM ig. cont. mod.
on a '96 it's a black plastic single wire push in female connector
check with tach manufacturer for compatibility by auto manuf/model/engine
most have online sites with info
most make similar models for several different types of ignition systems, OEM, aftermarket CD etc
EDIS systems take different type of tach than aftermarket ig. system or old point coil systems
Ok, I check the SunPro series, looks like they will work but they do not list the Aerostar specifically. It does list the Ranger and Explorer 4.0 and it does say the tan wire w/yellow stripe. So I would guess that it is fully compatible with the Aerostar too.
Ok, I am reporting back, the Sunpro guages work flawlessly. In fact, it is very easy to install on the 4.0L. I drilled the hole for the grommet a short distance above the throttle linkage because that was where the most room was.
