starting a junkyard engine

I'm looking at getting a 460 from a local 4x4 parts store, there is a 74' 460 still in the truck. I'm looking at transplanting in my 79'. I wanted to know if there are some precautions that i need to take before starting it up that i might not have thought of.

Fresh oil, then perhaps a shot or two of oil in each cylinder, and spin it over with the plugs out until the oil pressure comes up. By this time, the carb should be full of gas and ready to go.

When you do get the motor fired up take it easy with for at least the first couple hundred miles as the motor seals and gaskets will need to get relubed up as they may have dried out some from sitting and the rings and valves will need to reseat ....I found out the hard way.....

I would also suggest flushing the cooling system and changing the thermostat while your at it. I have heard of running a quart of transmission fluid through it as well then changing the oil and filter after the first 50 miles. As far as the gaskets and what not, use shell rotella T since it does have additives that have been removed from newer oil formulas. Comp Cams now has a service bulletin with all new cam shafts expressing this.
