For me the choice is an easy one. Today I've gone and finally done it. I just signed the paper work subject to financing for an 01 with the V10. It has been too long since I've endulged myself with a muscle truck.
Then let us know when you have started kicking yourself for not getting the diesel.
I have an 03 F450 with the 6.0 I can use anytime I'd like. It is ok for what it is, but I'm not paying thousands more for something I not only don't need nor want for my personal truck. I just dislike too many things about it. A nice sunny day driving around with the windows down sounding like a grey hound bus doesn't turn me on.
30K trouble free miles enough power to do what I need 5K extra in my pocket $25 to get the oil chnaged at the dealer, a ton of poeple that know how to work on a module motor I think it will be a while before I post up that I am missing out on the PSD.
To that end, I would hazard to say that this is going to come down to your personal choice and may be somewhat influenced by availability in your area when you decide to pull the trigger--if you don't custom order.
Hey Deluxe, did you mean squeeze the trigger?

There aren't many topics that can be posted on forums like these, that somehow someway, they turn into debates. It happens though. Everybody at one time or another had done it too. Such is life.
Some people seem a little too serious with their replies. Go out and test drive both engines a few times and then get which ever one YOU like the most. I love my diesel, you might not
go for the v10, unless you want to mod or just have the diesel. the oilburner gets about 20% better milage but cost $4000 more and are lackluster performers with the crashbox VS. the slushbox because of boost lost between ****s/turbo lag compared to the v10 as other have stated.
given you only tow limited times/year i dont think you will miss much.
I travel and work 100% of the time. I needed a truck to pull my 18k pound fifthwheel. The tie breaker on choice was listening to my coworkers after their Powerstroke went to the dealer. We can't pull the truck in the back yard or garage and work on it ourself. The trips to the dealer for Powerstroke problems were very, very expensive. I have been pleased with my choice of the V-10.
Oh man, don't let the smokers hear that. They'll swear you would have been happier w/ a rolling furnace, cause, cause, I don't know why, it's just better!!!! LOL!!
Anyway, glad to hear your happy w/ your V10. BTW, me too!!!
