I'm working on restoring the frame on my 79 F150 4x4. I have the chassis stripped down and ready to be sent out for sandblasting, some minor repairs, and hopefully undercoating. The issue is this, the cab mounts are pretty well shot. I am going to have someone weld on plates over the old holes but I don't know how big the holes in the new plates should be. I have not ordered the new mounts yet (I can't measure something I don't have) and the old ones either had to be cut off or were permanently affixed together not allowing me to measure them. Can anyone tell me how big the holes should be for the 3 pairs of body mounts? It will save me a lot of time and aggravation. I need to have this truck back together before plowing season (mid to late November). Thanks!!!
I made the same type plate for my mounts. I ordered the bushings and hdw., then cut the donut shaped plates on a plasma shape cutter to match the mounts and bushings. I work at a tech college and have access to lots of equipment. Tech schools are good places to get some work done. The instructors and kids are usually willing to help and some have fantastic cutting and machining equipment
Well, I welded a solid plate on there, and I don't plan on cutting the hole just yet. I figure I would get a sheet metal hole cutter when it came time to drop the cab on the frame. You could probably guage the hole size based on the existing cab mount holes.
