just won't shift?

runs good, but the check engine light is on. took it in to have the codes read. they told me it needs 4 new catalytic converters and 3 new o2 sensors. the other issue is it does not like to shift. it just keeps revving up up up and then it kind of slips/slams into the next gear. i was told that the issues in the exhaust may be causing the shift issue, don't really know? the exhaust will cost about 1000 bucks which isn’t a issue but if it still won't shift then i'm having to dump some real cash here. what do you guys think?<O</O

thank you <O</O

How did they determine that you need all 4 cats and 3 o2s? Was there a seperate code for each? It seems a bit extreme to have to replace all of them. I also don't see how that could impact the shifting of the trans. Have you tried resetting the codes to see if that may any difference on anything?

Yes, I would like to know how it was determined that you need new cats and O2's.

When did the tranny problem start, suddenly or over a period .

the shifting issue came on over time. i took it to the Ford dealer and they put in 2 new o2 sensors and recommended 4 new cats. i didn't do it because they wanted $2400. i then took it to a muffler shop, they plugged it in and they told me i needed 3 new o2 sensors and all 4 cats because on a noticeable loss in power when i drive. they said if i do this it may fix the shifting issue because the sensors are only working half way and may be sending mixed signals to the trannie. i then called Ford and told them what the muffler shop told me and they said to do all four cats and reset the computer. this could fix the o2 sensor and shifting issue. i have been getting a lot of mixed messages and don't really know what to do. i to don't see a correlation between exhaust and trannie but they way new cars are set up i don't really know. does this help.

if you of a mind to do some down and dirty testing I will post some proceedures for testing, O2's and cats.

The codes are there as a guide, but a lot of mechanics try to fix by process of elimination, change all parts until it works, but it is not their $$.
