Wondering what problems owners have seen with the 5.4 3v. I have an '05 SC with the 5.4 3v with 22k miles on it...so far no issues.
I had a '99 5.4 2v that blew a spark plug at 108k, after purchasing 5 new Ford trucks I almost didn't buy another due to the spark plug issue and faulty tie rod ends...
There has been concerns of excessive speeds on rural roads as well as unexplained slowing while passing big storefront windows.
They are all available in the tsb's.
It's official!! Now I can tell my wife I'm not the only person on the planet who slows down in front of store windows to "safety check" the exterior of my truck....
My 2004 with 68K mi sounds like a diesel on the passenger side. The dealer said this is normal. They let me listen to another 2004 and it sounded the same and nothing to worry about but I don't think a gas engine should be this loud. It's out of warranty so I will have to pay to have this fixed myself. TSB 06-7-4 says it's either the lifters or the cam phaser. This the first and last Ford I will ever own.
Lets see... My 2005 F150 started stalling out at intersections. at idle it would feel like somebody kicked your truck a couple of times and then poof... it would stall...
Replaced a bad injector, coil pak and plug.
Almost immediatly started doing the same thing. Dealer said don't bring it back until it stalls. So I waited 2 months and then one nice 70 degree day I drove about 10 miles and pulled to a stop... Poof the truck stalled. this time the replaced a whole bank of injectors.
Truck still idles rough kinda like a rock star jonesing for a fix but it hasn't stalled yet.
Just went over 36K and I hope it stays running.. If I could afford it the truck would be so traded in by now... It has been back for PCM flashing and attempts to fix this problem about 5 times. they even took it home overnight to feel the engine cold vs hot. The dealer admits it is very rough cold and still can be rough at times hot but they can't diagnose it without a trouble code. Even when stalling it didn't throw a code. They just noticed the time differences on some kinda scope when watching the injectors.... blah blah... I am not happy....
