I don't believe the ability to create and invent technologies was stolen at all... it was sold. Sold out, that is. By the american capitalist, in the quest for the almighty buck. Profits are made when people are paid $0.75 per hour, not $17.50 per hour. We are fat and lazy, Asians are skinny and smart.

My opinion, not yours.

the only flaw is that the only poeple who can afford to buy the company's products are the ones making $17.50 an hour.

No kidding...

You want to milk a great fat cow - you cannot do it to a dry stone.
(He observes)

So how can we do that back to Japan?

The only things they have in abundance are technology and fish. The resources must come from elsewhere. They live on a collection of rocks in the middle of the ocean - there is an exploitable weakness somewhere in all of that, and it's high time we took advantage of it in return.

I say bleed them....

Oh dear.... There I go in S.O.B. Mode again

A great many of the breakthroughs in modern technology have been made by Americans. They go into busness making their new product only to have it stolen by foreign manufacturers. Then they dump the product on the American market below cost and drive the inventor out of business. This is a pattern that has been repeated many many times. It's about time that our government made a very serious effort to protect American inventions from this practice. It kills incentive.

Do I hear the term "BOYCOTT" echoing down the hall?

LOOK AT IT! THEY HAVE STOLEN FROM US!

And from my perspective it goes like this:

"FIRST TIME, shame on YOU. SECOND TIME SHAME ON ME!"

I was thinking more of enforcing patent protections.

Patent protection is a joke - the japanese found a way around it long ago.

Oh dear, I can see this thread being locked before long or moved. AND OVER THE TRUTH...

I hate to say it, but we cannot enforce US patents in Japan - that's how they robbed us.

And yet, what happens if we reduce trade with them?

They will simply open other markets. BUT I WOULD like to see them pay for what they have done. Japan richly deserves extremely high tarriffs! Thus making the price of stolen technology exceedingly high to sell in the United States.

Maybe so, but it all has to do with the future of those kids.

Imagine...

Someone, over here, records the news every night for a week and sends it back to their home, in Japan.

What are the recieving party's seeing?

Headlines:

US epidemic; everyone is fat... Babies are fat, school kids are fat, the middle aged are fat, the old are fat.

Car manufacturers making cars bigger to acommodate fat Americans.

Health care epidemic on the horizon as old, fat americans are hospitalized.

Exposé on school cafeterias: unhealthy foods, too much fat, kids are fat.

Now, someone over there records the news and sends it back here... what do we see?

I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it's not the same. We are probably their inspiration. You work hard, you don't want to be like fat lazy american.

Disclaimer, I've had a beer. Lets see what two will do.

First of all the 50’s and 60’s were loaded with bad moments just the same as now so that’s not really the best case for where we’re going.

Second, pointing at foreign countries and claiming they stole our tech is nothing short of the pot calling the kettle black. We’re a young country and have easily stolen our share of ideas too. What would Henry Ford have done if the automobile wasn’t already invented?

Third, the biggest problem by far with the school system is the parents. Parents ruined discipline and parents have dumbed the system down. We live in a society that says it’s wrong to be stern with students because if you are there will be hell to pay. Lawsuits and years of weak parenting have thrown our schools into a rut that it probably will never crawl back out of.

Lastly, we can’t afford Craftsmanship. It’s just expected to have disposable products. We’ve allowed ourselves to accept mediocre as the normal and have elevated quality to something of prestige.

Want to help America, stop handicapping the school system and stop telling your rug rats they can’t do wrong. Start pushing your children to do better yourselves instead of expecting someone else to do it for you. Start getting involved with homework and when the teacher says your kid has a problem try listening first before you get defensive. Our country is getting softer and softer and it’s mostly stemming from poor parenting. It’s great to be your kid’s buddy but we still need to be parents. Our problems need time to be fixed and the solution is in the children of today who will be running the country tomorrow.

Since we are dependent on the foreign purchase of our debt to operate, we have to exercise care in "bleeding" them.
