I've been somewhat out of the loop as far as having a vehicle worth upgrading, but since I picked up my '04 f150 FX4, I've been scouring catalog after catalog.
As far as a tuner goes, I am just curious about a few things, from people that have "field" experience with them.
1. Do most of the tuners come with pre-set adjustments for us rookie's?
2. If I dived into the advanced tweaking, how bad would I screw my truck up if I set something wrong?
3. When exactly is the best time to do a re-tune?; After exhaust is done, CAI and/or other things.
Stock tunes are medicore at best, they are going for "works for the masses". Any time is a good time for tuning. I think SCT and I know sniper will let you tweak some of the more advanced settings. I have installed a bunch of superchips microtuners, a hand full of flashpaqs and a few hypertechs. They have very little in the line of advanced features. They are good options, but not for the ambitious gear head. Most all tune in a box devices give you the option of a 87,89 or 93 octane tune, some tire/gear choice and speed limiter adjustment. Some tuners will let you play the trans as well, but quite a few feel they can set it better than you.
