I have 97 F150 with a 4.6L and 147K miles. I am having a serious misfire, and lack of power. I have changed the plugs, wires and fuel filter to no avail. I am leaning towards it having a problem with a 1+ injector. I am contemplating upgrading to some higher performance injectors. But with increased fuel will the mileage drop or will the increased power offset it?
You will gain nothing from using larger injectors. The will have a very short duty cycle and it will not run as well.
Have you checked the coil packs? Sounds like maybe one has a dead coil in it.
It depends on your mods. Usually bigger injectors like to have bigger MAFs and throttle bodies. If your increasing the fuel, you need more air to make use of it. It's a big investment with little gain, until you do some engine work like P&P heads, cams, ect.
Can you smell/see raw fuel in the exhaust? How is your fuel mileage, if you have a stuck injector it should have fallen like a rock, but a bad coil shouldn't have effected it as badly? No codes? A lot of little things can cause a miss.
I had an exhaust leak for quite a while. I finally replaced the entire exhaust system with true duals. I then replaced the coils. Only 5k miles ago I replaced the plugs and wires. I noticed when I did the coils that not all of the plug wires want to stay on very well. I check every few days just to make sure. I still have a misfire that causes a backfire on a regular basis. I am needing to get his fixed before this exhaust is shot. Any ideas? I havent had a chance to load the new laptop up with software to read the engine codes yet, but my light is on.
Since the plug wires don't want to stay attached, what brand did you use? I think you'll find that when it comes to plugs and wires, nearly everyone says to stick with motorcraft.
Borg warner wires, and I cant remember which plugs I got, I know they were platinums from O'reilly. And also, in the last month my fuel mileage has plummented from about 18-22 to 10.
