1978 Short Box Compatibility
I have a 78 F150 4WD standard trans 351M Ranger Lariat short box standard cab. The box is in bad shape and locating a replacement in the Wisconsin area seems impossible. I was wondering if a newer model ford box would fit? Like something from the 80's or 90's. I know the trim lines probably wouldn't match but would it bolt on without major modifications? Any info on possible compatible years or if any of you have done this would be greatly appreciated.

Another option might be a short box step side from the 53+. Ford also used that on the 79 F100 and that makes a nice look. The mounts from an earlier truck might need some fabing to fit the 78.
