I think I had seen this hear before...when I start the truck (5.4 fx4 05) at least 2x/ week it won't turn over on first try, goes to start then seems to stall. Second try fires right up. Anyone have this happen to them? Seems to be happening more and more frequent even on full tank of gas.
mine does the same thing q,man....i have the 4.6L though. Sometimes it stalls on the first start, but will irreularly crank on the second try. Told dealer when I had my oil changed, they couldnt find anything wrong.

Just like 4DOORSR stated, start wth changing the fuel filter, and you may wanna change gas stations at the very least for a comparison. If your using Citgo you should know they tend to have a higher amount of sulfur in the fuel and tend gum up your fuel lines.
I just changed the feul fliter 3k miles ago and I noticed the same thing. Recently though it took 2 or even 3 turns before starting. Sounds like timing to me. Why would it never happen for a good while after taking it to the dealor? I wounder if they actually do some kind of recallibration on the entire system?
Running into a similiar problem here. I will go to start mine 30% of the time and it will not start first try. I will then turn the key back off, and wait about 10 seconds, try again and get a grinding sound when it first cranks, and then it starts providing I crank it for a few seconds. Happens more frequently when I stop for a few minutes with the truck off (like running into a store) and then start it back up. The dealer I bought the truck from says "can't duplicate the problem" but updated the computer. No joy, so I am going to try a new dealer. Had the truck since new, and it started around 2500 miles, now I have 17k on it. So many dealers, not just Ford spit out "I can't duplicate the problem", or "that is normal" at the first visit it seems, and deal with it if you come back a second or third time.
Put a fuel pressure guage on the line. It could be losing fuel pressure. That might be why it takes a few cranks to get it going.
That is a great idea if I was out of warranty, but since mine is under warranty, I expect them to fix it without me doing any troubleshooting. That is what I paid for, I think. Most of the time it seems like I bought dealer attitude instead of a warranty.
Last time I had my oil changed, I told the dealer about it. They plugged it up, and then told me they couldnt find anything but they had "updated" the computer. It hasnt been doing it near as much as before they did whatever they did, but it still happens every now and then. Before I crank now, I turn the ignition to cut the battery on, let it sit for a few secs then crank. It hasnt happened since Ive been doing that.
I am not having this problem, but it sure sounds like a fuel pressure problem. The fuel pressure is supposed to build right after you turn the key on and then start with full pressure. For those of you with the problem does it seem to help if you turn on the key for about 5-10 seconds before turning the engine over?

Let me know.
Using the same thought process I tried this a few times now. Even waited for the dummy lights to go out, no difference, does it then also.
