Just changed coolant, and water pump started leaking....
Is it possible to fix it, I never saw a kit for aeros pump...., who knows what is the bearing and seal sizes, mai be I can purchese a lit of european make....
I am impressed that you will try to fix the water pump. I replaced mine when it blew out its bearing/seal. I should have kept the old core to take apart, but I already have too much junk in the garage. Good luck finding replacement bearing, and let us know measurements when you can get them. Maybe some others on this forum can replace just the failed component, instead of the whole pump.
Just replace the water pump. They are really cheaper than rebuild kits in the long run. Of coarse that is here in the US, I'm not sure what kind of price you would see, maybe they are way expensive. It just seems to me that by the time the bearing fails, that there is a strong possibility that corrosion has set in on other parts of the pump, and it would be better to let someone who rebuilds these for a living handle it and let you get the the important work of getting your ride back on the road.
I have no idea as to where you would get a bearing, but my guess is that if you knew that, you wouldn't be asking here. Maybe one of the older members has done this before. I personally wouldn't bother, not when I can get a new part and have a warranty to go with it.
hi pablo,
almost no DIYer home auto water pump rebuilding here in states any more...shafts, seals and bearing are not even commonly available and not listed on Motorcraft site
Hi Pablo,
There is a hole directly underneath of the pulley, You will miss it if not looking for it. Mine started leaking from there and I couldn't figure out where the coolant was comming from. It leaks from there when the pump seal is shot. It was a bear to take off (Just like anything on the Aero )
Probably because the seal was plugged with junk or something, and it got flushed away. The little hole on the underside of the shaft is called a weep hole, and without it, the wate leakages would immediately get into the bearing and the pump would seize withot warning. This way, the leaking antifreeze will let you know there is a problem before it gets that bad.
That weep hole is usually blocked by the harmonic damper from below, so most of the time you will not see it even if you were crawling around underneath looking for it.
Absolutely replace. The question on this part is - how much is your time and agrivation worth vs. a relatively easy replacement? You should get the core charge back anyway.
Just remember to loosten the fan shaft before you take the belts off. It can be a pig to take apart afterwords.
probably piece of block rust lodged in seal....thrown out and seal started working again
could have been one of these Mercedes SUV's, friend had to have water pump replaced....just off warranty....almost $1000
