ok just meandering thoughts and i dont know if what im thinking of is possible or hoe much of it, anyway
i know the main difference on the 6.9 and the 7.3 is the 7.3 or way overbored and it has different heads and from what i remember of how a powerstroked engine works is just a longer stroke so could you fit a PS crank in a 6.9? whats diferent on those if any?
and when they got to the DI engines how different are the heads? would it be possbile to mount the fuel system from a DI to an old 6.9 head?
i know most anything should be possible with money and time but i dont have either, but just for y curiosity and for the entertainment of a new discussion here goes
It would be a ton of work just to get a PSD to run in place of an IDI. You would pretty much need a donor truck to get all the electronics to operate the Powerstroke.
Converting a 6.9 to direct injection would be no picnic either. While I believe the internals of the short block are essientially the same, everything outside of that is different.
well thats about what i thought i had no illusion it would be easy just an idea that might be an interesting project if ever done. i think it would be a im bored and have to much money project
That would definitely fall into the "I have way to much money and time on my hands" category.
You will be making a custom engine, nothing on the market is going to work.
The stock parts are not going to be adaptable either.
You better have a very good friend with a complete machine shop before you start, you are going to give one enough money that you would have a good friend that owned one after you were done with that project.
I have a friend who has had more cars & trucks than I can remember or him for that matter....he would spend thousands of dollars and hours on his vehicles, never made a dime on any of them, last one he did, I bought.
