Talking More Advance.

I know you are suppose to run 8.5 degrees advance but is there anyone out there that runs more. There are alot of Cummings guys that bump it from factory 12 to 16 and say they get significant gains in power and response. Or should a guy experiment on his own as long as you stay away from the PowerStroke knock. Any ideas?

A Cummins is an inline six, much longer stroke. Different rules apply.

At 8.5 degrees you will have a Power Stroke rattle while the timing is advanced at cold start. Mine rattles every morning when I first fire it up.

How many degrees does the cold idle advance change the timing? And by these rules by manually applying power to the cold advance I should turn on and off the rattle and know I am as close as possible?

About 1.5 degrees depending on what engine and IP you have installed.
