The C6 in my '81 is just about toasted and I was wondering if an AOD from an '86 or an '88 would work. I have access to both. I haven't had a chance to look at either of them so I'm not sure what their proper names are or what kind of, if any, wiring is involved. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am interested in the same thing. I have an 85 F150 with a carborauted 351 winsor. Would it be possible to put an AOD out of an 88 Crown Victoria in it??
I think 84-85 was the last years for the mechanical AOD. After that they were computer controlled. The trannies will bolt to your motors, but you may have to get the wiring to make them work properly. Early AOD's aren't praised for there strength either. If you plan on putting a car tranny in a truck, I would have it built up a bit first.
the AOD was never computer controlled. you will need to find an AOD from a 4wd to make the swap easier. also be sure to get the throttle bracket from the same truck so the tv cable can be connected. also if you have the 5.8 motor you will need to buy a new flexplate. ask for an 80's crownvictoria 351/AOD flexplate, dont bother trying to locate one from a wrecking yard i almost garauntee it will be the wrong one.
