Hey folks. I've got a 2001 EX, 7.3L, 4x4. Now, the problem is that I need a plug for my trailer to plug in to. I see what must be the stock setup, but there isn't a 7 pin, or 4 pin connection. So, does anyone know where I can get this set up on short notice? It doesn't seem that auto parts stores carry the piece to fit stock. They have one that will plug in between the rear lights, but nothing for the stock plug. Also, is the stock connection a lot better than the connection between the rear lights? Thanks. I always know who I can trust.
Well, i bought the truck used. So, I assumed the owner before me took them when he sold the truck. It has a pretty heavy duty reciever on it with the stock plug. So, it seems to me like that would constitute some sort of "towing package."
What type of "stock plug" is it? Normally you get a 6/7 pin reciever plug and the 12.5 hitch setup. You have to buy the hitch inseret w/ whatever size ball you need and the trailer plug should fit the stock female receiver.
You may or may not have had the towing package. Could be that someone added the receiver and wiring after the fact. You should be able to decode the VIN # to see if you have the original towing package. I believe that this information can be found in the technical sticky thread at the top of this forum.
Don't feel too bad. My truck came with the towing package and a nice set of wiring plugs (2 different ones). The P.O. must not have wanted to use an adapter and snipped the original wiring and installed a different plug where one of the lic. plate lights is supposed to go. Seems to me like it was an awful lot of work to avoid buying an adaptor. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhhhhh.
