Turn Signal
I have a 89 BII. When i go to turn left and hit the brakes the turn signal won't work, it works as long as im not on the brakes? its got me stumped because the right turn signal doesn't do this. Any ideas!?
thanks J.B.
It sounds as though it might be a fault in the turn-signal switch. When you have the left signal on and press the brake, does the left stop/turn light just stay on solid or not come on at all? How about the front turn signal/dash indicator -- On solid or off?
A simple short between the brake feed and the left turn/stop output (e.g. from a faulty section of the switch) would cause the brake to override the left turn/stop light and make it just stay on when you press the brake, but in that case using the left signal without the brake would also make the right stop/turn light flash as well.
Have you checked that all other turn/brake permutations are working properly on both front and rear of the vehicle?
Turn the left signal on without parking lights or brake lights & check the front & rear bulbs. Next, turn on the park lights & left signal & see if the bulbs are a) working, b)at their proper illumination. There could be a poor ground at the light fixture.
If everything looks good at this point, you'll be checking the switch & wiring next.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then you'll need to look at the switch & it's plug. (more money)
