Hello all, I am new to the board and I have a few questions. I am getting a 94 bronco from my mom for free, and its in pretty good condition, but we all know that time takes its toll on everything. A little info on the truck: 94 Bronco 5.8 auto 4x4, 80,000 miles mostly city, A/C dont work, none of the power windows work, needs new speakers, and leather seats are badly cracked so at least needs seat covers.
as far as the engine and transmission go, transmission is excellent, 4x4 never been used. The truck has some problems with the engine, my mom put about 1000 miles about 2 years ago therefore the oil wasnt changed, when it was finally changed it came out in globs, since then it has developed a hesitation when accelerating from a stop, and then it doesn't happen any more, also, everyonce in a while the rpm's will shoot high without the truck accelerating on its own. what is wrong with it? it has only overheated once and the radiator has been fixed, and no oil leaks of any kind.
I am definately mechanically illiterate so i have to rely on other people's opinion. is it worth it to keep it and fix? how much money do you think it will take to fix it? or should i just sell it?
thanks for the replies, and I will post pics when I go and pick it up.
just for info, things that have been replaced recently, new ignition, spark plugs, fuel filter, and air filter, and it still has the hesitation (stalling?). what other parts do you recommend i should change?
also, what code reader do you all recommend and where can i get it?
With what ya said about sludge and all i would recommend taking off the upper intake and cleaning it. maybe try and clean the EGR valve possibly replace it. thre upper intake gasket is pretty cheap throw in a few cans of intake claener ( carb cleaner is fine brake clean is better AS LONG AS YOU TAKE IT OFF THE TRUCK !!!) the high rev ... how dirty is the return spring on the throttle body ? could be that easy. code reader ... go to auto zone they will read it out for free . as far as selling it that is up to you but remeber stuff that runs like crap sells for the same price crap .
