Look up the specs for the 351wHO that came in the trucks prior to '88. I'm pretty sure it's the same cam. The hp/tq number are the same for the EFI and HO motors. It actually is a great torque cam, just not much HP. The E303 is the cam of choice here it seems.

No, they're not the same unfortunately. Father had an '86 E350 with a 351HO and it would tow my '89 F150 around backwards!!. WAY more power. He also had a '84 vanella 351 in a half ton and it was a complete dog.
Info I have is the '80's 351HO cam spec'd out something like 0.440 lift and 260 deg duration. A couple catalogs I have rate cams with 0.430 lift and 250 deg duaration as an upgrade from the factory non HO cam. The Crane Cams catolog has a cam with 0.380 lift and unknown duration as the factory spec replacement for the 5.0 motor....I believe it. I have a 5.0 truck motor out in the shop... I'll have to measure it to confirm.
hmm, the 5.0 and the 5.8 uses the same cam?
i am looking at the comp xtreme 4x4 254H as a replacement...
i wonder if the stock springs could handle it? and the retainer guide clearance?
since the truck could use a new timing chain and reseal the intake...
and the big question... could the ECU could control it properly?
everything else will remain stock... from exhaust manifold to intake... and needs to pass smog...
the ecam wont run in your efi 5.8 pfogle should know better. you need to run a cam with a lobe seperation of 114* or more otherwise the ecu will not be happy. CompCams 35-255-5 runs very well and doesnt require a spring upgrade.
