Hi Boris,
Welcome to FTE! The color code "S" stands for "Special". These were colors other than the standard "Diamond Lustre" colors offered by Ford for 1960 trucks. "Special" colors were applied at the customers request, and it was commonly done on fleet vehicles, and special order vehicles.
If you have the rest of the rating plate data, we would be happy to de-code that for you as well.
Hi,
Two-tone would be designated by two letters. The combination of any standard Ford truck color combined with "Corinthian White"
For example, a red & white two-tone paint scheme would have a code of "JM". The "J" = "Monte Carlo red", and "M" = "Corinthian White".
"Special" would be colors for example "Olive drab" on military trucks ordered, or a special green used by the Forest service for the trucks they ordered, etc.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-03 AT 06:27 PM (EST)]Great info. Thank you. This is what the plate in the glove box states: Ser #

The color on the truck is a turquoise. Don't really like it much.
Any more help?

Axle 06 .......... 4.88 rear axle gear ratio
Ford did have a turqoise called "Caribbean Turquoise" as one of the standard colors for 1960 Ford trucks, but the color code for that would be "B".
If your truck's turquoise paint job is indeed the original, the "S" color code would lead me to believe that it had to be a different turquoise than Ford's for that year. Companies who purchased fleet vehicles, often ordered special paint to match the rest of their fleet.
Do you have any clues as to who may have previously owned the truck? That might help in finding the actual exact color.
