7.3 PSD Technical Reference Sources

I'm a newbie to diesels but thru this friendly and professional forum I'm learning fast....very fast...this forum is a goldmine and invaluable for people like myself. I'm hoping I can contribute soon at least a small portion of what I've learned recently. I've tinkered with old gassers ('73 Mustang, TBird, Maverick, etc) all my life but now with all the new sensors, on board computers coupled with diesel technology, I'm low on the learning curve. Is there a website that anyone may know of that explains all of the acronyms and what sensors do what? For instance I've just learned from somewhere on this formidable forum that the oil temp sensor advances timing. I would like to know what the other sensors and regulaters do, eg MAP, GPR, etc, and how they work. Can anyone provide a reference source (preferably on-line) for this type of info. It would also be great if the text was in lay terms without all the hi-tech gobbly gook......use to know all that stuff but no longer......my memory C disk has been full for some time.

Well there used to be a nice Common Mods and FAQ sticky right at the top of this forum that would answer most of your questions or if not link you somewhere. That is what all the good folks went through so much trouble to set it up for. I even refer to it quite frequently, but alas, suddenly as of last night I noted it was no longer there.

While we await resolution on what happenned there, you might try perusing the FTE main page and search along that area. Since ours is gone, I will say TDS has some good info that I believe is still there so you might peek there.

As far as doing a search through the threads on the 99-03 PSD forum, good luck. TMI and hard to get just what you are looking for. Lots and lots of sifting. Stand by. Dan or Scott will have the sticky back up shortly I'm sure.
