what size bolt

attaches the tailgate cable to the side of the tailgate? And does the tailgate come apart? whatever the bolts screw into that hold the lock in place, has broken free and i can't tighten it now. what i really need is a new tailgate.

Can't tell you what size bolt it is, but the 'gate does come apart. There should be an access panel on the inside of it (top, when it's open) that will come off with 8-10 screws. If you have a bedliner-type cover on the 'gate, you'll probably need to remove it to get to the screws.

Also, I seem to remember that the bolts for the tailgate cables on mine were a bit of a pain, they'd unscrew to the end of the threads, but then there was a lip on the end so that it wouldn't come all the way out. We opened the access panel on the tailgate and tapped them out to replace the cables, then had to tap them back in again when we put it together.
