Im wanting to switch transfer cases right now i have a 208 in my 1984 f150 4x4 and i want to put a 205 in it but all the ones ive found on ebay says it want work with my year model so can anybody point me in the right direction. thanks
The issue isn't the tcase, they didn't use them in 84 at all so your not going to find a 205 that says it's for a 84. I have seen it done but you do have to modify a few things. first you need to put a brace on the frame to hold the side or you will end up cracking the adaptor and or transmission, second the drivveshaft won't clear the crossmember so you need to modify or build a new transmission crossmember. Next depending on what transmission you have there may not be an adaptor for it to the 205 so you will have to modify that also, on this I am not sure as everyone I Have seen do it and it's only been a couple used a C6 which there is an adaptor that fits that combo.
first off, i did it to my 85. it bolted right for the most part. i did have to build my crossmembers but it worked just fine. also what transmission are you using?
I have 2 NP205's if you wanna work something out PM me, hell i'll help ya put it in! i have both brackets/crossmembers that i used. i visit my g/f in athens every other weekend so i could very easily get it to you!
When I put the 205 in my 81 Bronco ( came with a 208 ) I had to grind a spot on the adapter to clear the shift rail on the transfer case. Mine is an np435 4 sp. I also did the crossmember mods and made the brace like Monsterbaby said. I also had to get different driveshafts, because the 205 is shorter than the 208.
EDIT: and by the way, Cutts- you need to get a girlfriend in Florida too. I need some parts!
