Ok, I'm looking into changing out the rear end. I'm pretty sure I have the 8.8" and I know I have the 3.55:1 ratio. I was looking into LSD's and a ring and pinion set. I need to know the number of splines on the axles.... The ring and pinion set I'm lookin at says the pinion has 30 splines..The LSD's come in like 28, 30, 31... Do I just need to worry about matching my pinion to my LSD, or both of them to my existing axle splines? And if so, how do I figure out the number of spline son the axles w/o actually takin it apart and counting XD
im pretty sure the axle spline is 31 if its a truck ,and when you order your ring gear and pinion i would tell the place you ordered it from the rear end is a truck rear end.also give them the year model and tag off the rear end if possible.this might help when ordering
You are mixing up axle spline counts and pinion gear spline counts in your question.
A stock application will have a pinion spline count of 30 splines.
A stock application will have either 28 or 31 splines on the axles; Aftermarket will run up to 35 splines on spools. Trucks typlically came off the line with 31 spline axles.
