Just to flash for a few seconds when you start the truck to make you think it does something... 
I've been told that it comes on around 60k miles so you would bring the truck in for an emission service. I had a stone dead 02 sensor and it set a code, but the light never came on...

the truck has a non feedback carb, no smog pump, cats are gone, charcol container is gone, egr is gone.
whats the little vaccum thingies on the exhaust mainfolds for? because theyre unhooked to.
i just got the truck 2 weeks ago. for a 86 it seems a little emmisions lowtech, i know it has no o2 sensors on it because i put the exhaust on it.
i'll probly just unplug the goofy light.

The light isn't connected to anything. My truck had a seized smog pump when I got it, but the light never came on. I have been told it just comes on to remind you to check your smog equipment for wear. Mine usually stays on after my battery has died, and will go off a couple days later.

If the light is only coming on at startup, ignore it. It can be a PITA to get to if you want to unplug the bulb...
As for the O2 sensor, I've got the 302, and starting in 85 the 302's where EFI. It's still a basic system, not much there at all.
