Basepan

I need to change my oil pan gasket on my 88 BII four wheel drive. All Data requires me to remove the distributor, disconect the muffler inlet, stabalizer and so on. Than raise motor to get at the base pan. Is there a better way to change that gasket or should I just keep adding oil?

getting that oil pan off completely is no easy job. you pretty much need to pull the motor to get it off.

You can get the pan off by raising the vehicle's frame so you get axle droop, then lift the motor/trans/xfer as one unit to slide it off. Putting it back is another thing.

I do think on a BII it is much easier just to pull the entire engine out the front of the vehicle after removing the radiator.

Thanks, I think I will just keep adding oil when needed. It does not leak much anyways. Next Aug, I will start a collage program for diesal and high performance engines. My 2.9 will be my project for a rebuild. I know its small, but I will find anything to raise the fuel milage and power. Any sugestions on aftermarket parts would be great help. I realy enjoy my BII, so I am slowly going to fully restore it with a little bit of mods here and there.
