cold air injection size question

hey guys i was wondering how big of pipe do you guys try to use for your cold air injection setups? where do you go threw the core support? also when you go threw the core support how much do you actualy neck the pipe down? i dont think you can truely fit a 4inch pipe threw that area on my 1993. Please let me know how much you can neck it down without loosing any power gain. I know the less you neck it down the better but what do you guys use?
thanks,
Jimmy
PS Pictures of what you guys did to go threw the core support will help tons also. also will this help a engine with a turbo already on it?
thanks again!

Andy, mine [84 6.9] is simular to Dave S...difference being I expanded the existing hole to 4x11 inches, house hold heater vent with 4 inch ducting to the air cleaner. On my 86, I had dual cool air induction again simular to a recent post on cool induction, this system worked very well and if I didn't have air, I would do it again but that would be a waste cause eventualy I will be installing a turbo. I have to apoligies for no pics, I don't have a digital camera. I will tell you this, I've played with cool air induction on two trucks [10 years], trying all sorts of ideas...while the system I have now is not the best, it is the most effiecent as being among the simplest, but I think I will add a second duct and connect with a y pipe, what do you think??? lol.

If you're willing to spend a couple hundred bucks, I'd say to invest in a dual ram air box. It's not a cheap fixer for optimized air intake. What i suggest you do is buy that air box, but take the the tubes and cut holes on both sides of your rad support and get them fixed in there. So this way you have one on each side of the rad, and you have direct flow of air coming in from the from of the truck. This is kind of like a supercharger in a sense, and for 300$ I'd definately do it if I were you. Here's the link.

i already have a turbo on my truck. I am just trying to get cooler air into my truck. My question is where can i go threw the radiator support? mine is a 1993 and well since the grill and everythgin is different it makes it so hard to figure out what to do to get a tube threw the radiator support anyone ever do this to a turbo'd truck? also anyone withthe 92-94 trucks do it yet?

Have you considered not going through the radiator support? Maybe going under the front bumper instead? Just a thought.....

I haven't tried it yet, but I was thinking it might be possible to go OUTSIDE the frame and cut a hole through the plastic fender liners below/behind the battery tray.

Another option is to go up throught the top of the piece between the raditor and grill supports - like what KJLYPW did. Check out his gallery.

1978fordf250, I a/c and I was able to put 4inch pipe & elbow....drilled a hole in my battery tray, bolted large hose clamp to keep it away from the power steering, worked like a charm!

I got another idea guys! Yeah I know, "oh god here we go again" lol. Neway, why not get rid of the circular cleaner? I had an idea of taking a pipe (same diameter as the intake hole, which is huge) and piping it to the grill with a PSD filter at the end of the pipe. That way there is less restriction and more flow because of the huge intake. I think the pipe would be roughly 6" and only have a few minor bends plus a 90 to take it into the engine. If I can I will draw up a diagram in the morning to give ya a better picture of what I'm talking about. Call it crazy but it I think it might be effective.

Just as I posted that I had another idea, could you make the existing 4" intake wider on the side of the circular cleaner? More air and cooler at that without totally ditching your stock cleaner. Only problem I could see is getting ahold of some wider piping/hose...Any thoughts?

Also, thanks bc6.9 and I wish I could get a look at your setup! From your description it should be very effective!
