Smile New Ford Owner

Hello,

I am new to the forum and have only posted once before. I recently bought a 2000 F250 V10 SD 4X4 and absolutely love it. I am wondering what regular maintaince should be done to the vehicle in order to keep it running efficient. It has 44,000 miles on it. I have come from an old ('88) Chevy Silverado 2wd so the Ford trucks are new to me. Any help would be great. Thank you.

If you go to the link below... it will assist you on your maintanence schedules as outlined by Ford... just click on "maintanence" and follow the links and enter your specific truck information.

https://www.fleet.ford.com

With 44,000 miles... I would do the following whether they were done or not... keep in mind I drive a 2003 diesel Excursion, so I am more up to speed on what diesels require and not a gasser.

I would do the following if truck is new to you to ensure that it is 100%.

1) Oil change with proper weight oil and API rating. If you live in cold weather, maybe a name brand synthetic for easier cold weather starts... oil filter too.

2) I would have dealer flush the transmission to get 100% fluid exchange and change filters. I would drive there and wait for it so hopefully they can get you and your truck in while fluid is still good and hot and will exchange oout with the new fluid better.

3) I would do the transfer case with new ATF fluid of the proper type... never know if and when, or how much the prior user used 4WD.

4) I would do the front and rear-diff's (way early to do them)... but what the heck...its a new truck and you do not know if the prior owner drove through a lot of puddles/mud or towed alot. Could wait for this service if cash flow is tight after doing all the other things.

5) Change air filter... again.. better safe than sorry.

6) May want to flush and refill radiator with distilled water and proper anti-freeze... I do every 50,000 miles in my diesel and the book states 100,000, but that is too long for me or my diesel.
---------------------------------------------------

Not sure what Ford states for service, but I would think...

Oil & filter - every 3,000 miles

Tranny - Every 30,000 miles

Transfer Case - Every 50 - 60,000 miles

Front & Rear Diff's - Every 50,000 miles (that's me though)

Air Filter - Every 20,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck and let us know what the link above states for your truck.

Jeff
