Well I put a new injection pump on and its not acting right. I bought it off ebay from a memphis pump shop. ANyway, he said he would exchange it for free whether its broken or not, and my dad had to go through Memphis today anyway, so hes gonna exchange it. But, assuming its not the pump, if its out of time, how do you fix it?
It won't turn as fast as it should at idle, blows a lot of smoke, and when you push the pedal it is very sluggish to respond, it just takes a second or two when you push the pedal before it accelerates.
It could be the timing, when I installed IP,s on both my 84 & 86, they needed to timed. Go to a shop that has done this, special tools needed...my 84 is @ 8 degrees BTC and runs great, lol.
the timing mark on the pump and the housing is to just get you started mark after starting and a few min warm up the either adj to the pas side for adv and to the driver side to ret always recheck nuts after few mile they sometimes will loosen up and the have to do over again but if you have never adj one before the you might just want to get it started and the take to shop that has the proper tol to set up right may cost a few dollars but will save time and greef in the long run
How about simpler problems like bad lift pump, when was fuel filter last replaced, or possibity of restriced return or supply lines from the tank, tank selector valve working OK,etc? Did you have the same symtoms with the previous pump? When I replace my IP from Diesel Care, the timiming mark at 12o'clock position lined up with top of gear housing mark, 1/2 mark advanced was too much as it had a lot of rattling. Right on the mark, I have a preigniton rattle until the cold advance cuts off, then runs great with no rattle.
no, it ran fine before, but then it started going slower and slower, like it had no power, then just cut off, I thought I was out of fuel, but I know I had fuel coming out of the filter, but not out of the IP
