engine dead?

alright heres my dillema i got a 1987 150 with the 5.0 v8 R2wd custom

now i was having some trouble the day before it died with keeping the engine going but shed start up fine but just wouldnt stay unless i kept the gas on for a good 5min.. then shed idle a lil hard
now i go to start her up nothing jump it nothing not even a click.. just the fuel pump pressurizing the line.. tried to kick start it still nothing..
so i thought id test the battery so turn the headlights on turn the key no dimming.. and maintains about 12.5v could it be the starter? any ideas would help thanks

I'd say change the starter solenoid on the passenger side fender.

As biggreentank said, no clicking on selenoid, could be bad, or dirty connections. Clean batt. terminals, selenoid terms and check grounds to frame. Try the simple stuff first. Could be loose or dirty connections at starter selenoid as well, but seems power is not getting past selenoid. Can try to jump selenoid terminals with screwdriver, too see if clicks.

I would guess that you have run over something and messed up the wiring near the transmission. I would say the speedometer cable is off, the neutral safety switch wiring is off and the fuel system wiring is pulled apart.

That is why your odometer does not work, you fuel gauge is pegged, the truck will not run and the starter solenoid will not click.

The starter is not going to do anything until the solenoid clicks. The starter is on the passenger side of the engine near the transmission.

I take it you did not read my post above so you more than likely will not read this one either.

Not quite going to solve your problem, but the idle problem definately sounds like the Throttle Position Sensor. I just replaced mine (89 F-150) which was having the same problem staying running and it idles perfectly now. It's located on the bottom of the throttle body on the 5.0 so you likely have to take the throttle body off. As far as the starter problem, check the battery cable for corrosion. Had that problem to!
