I own a 1995 Bronco. I just replaced my PSOM by using a junkyard instrument cluster. It was alot cheaper than a new one, $30 compared to $230. it works fine right now but I was wondering if I have to clear any codes. Also I was wondering if you have to reprogram it to work correctly with larger tires. I have 31's and the stock ones are supposed to be 235's. I do mostly in town driving right now.
Chances are, the PSOM does need to be reprogrammed for yuor current tires.
If your current tires (need FULL size data) are listed in Ford's calibration chart, you can look up the axle info and come up with the correct conversion constant to be programmed into the PSOM/
Barring that...
Your best bet is to check the current calibration by taking a 10 mile run (use interstate highway mile markers) at exactly 60 MPH indicated speed while running a stopwatch.
Find out what your odometer reading is for the 10 mile trip, the elapsed time, and the PSOM's current calibration constant, a revised constant can be calculated and programmed into the PSOM.
thanks for the help. i'll have to try that. I'm just happy that its shifting properly now. For a while there i was getting pretty pissed off. Another plus of the new cluster is my truck went from having 185,000 miles on it to 178,000. Not that anything on the truck actually has 185,000 on it anyway except the body.
