I am thinking about buying a 2001-2003 king ranch. I understand that they are hard to find. Does anyone have any positive or negative comments on the half ton king ranch pickups.
Thanks for all you comments

I currently own an 04 6.0 KR and I must say that the leather is none forgiving. It will show every spill and requires alot of maintenance but it wears well, not like the cheap stuff that you find in most vehicles. Had to have the steering wheel replaced due to shedding( warranty) and no it doesn't smell like a barn but smells like quality leather.
Brent's comments are 100% correct. The King Ranch leather is about twice as thick as regular leather in say a Lariat, but it is not treated in the same way. Normal auto leather is for the most part non-absorbant, while the King Ranch leather is VERY absorbant. So, if you get grease, oil, soda, chocolate, etc. on it, it will stain. Also, it fades over time in the sun. The best treatment I've found is the Leather Conditioner sold by the King Ranch in Texas, use it every other month or so. Are you looking for a KR SCAB or SCREW? I have a 2003 KR SCAB, they seem to be really rare. Check my gallery for pics when it was new.
I am looking for a SCREW King Ranch. What happens to the King Ranch leather if you are a little wet and you sit down on them? Any different that way than on normal leather? Or what if you spill water on them?
Thanks for all you comments
These are helping me out a lot

No ill effects will occur but it will instantly leave a real dark pattern until dry. I usally end up pretty wet most of the time while fishing but over a 3 year time frame it hasn't left any perminent marks on the leather. But it should be treated regularly.
I can back up what other KR owners have said here. The Castaño leather in these trucks is very different than anything that you will find in any other model offered by Ford. My seats have faded and when the seats get wet, they are very absorbent. I have a product that I intend to try on these seats that I hope will rejuvenate the seats to look more like original. There is a company that can re-dye the seats but, right now I can't remember where they are or the name of the company. I will have to do some research on that.
Finding a SuperCrew model KR will be much easier to do than to find the SuperCab version. The SuperCab was only offered in 2002 and 2003 making this model very rare. The SuperCrew model has been available from 2001 - 2003 and 2005 to 2007.
Right- In fact the way Ford recommends cleaning the seats is wiping with a damp cloth followed by the King Ranch Leather conditioner.
Brent- Do you notice your seats have faded also?
Yep, not anything like I purchased and I treat mine quite regularly. There is a huge difference between the front and rear seat, guess that's due to sunlight.
Yes, that's what I've observed. The back seat looks like new, but the fronts are faded. Oh well, I'm still glad I bought the KR, and I've noticed that although the seats fade, they don't seem to crack like other leather seats. So, you take the good with the bad..............
Yep and I don't believe we'll see much cracking. The seats are quality, just like a saddles and you don't see many of them cracked. I guess with many years of neglect it would happen but if your paying that kind of money for this brand of truck, don't think many would chose to neglect it. If it wasn't quality leather you would surely see cracking in the high abrasion areas ie drivers and passenger side where you enter the vehicle. Well that enough rambling but overall I'm very satisfied.
I hate the King Ranches, they seem gaudy and excessive to me. But that's my opinion, lol.
The cow's hide that produced your leather must have slipped out of someone's hand and fell right into some cow patties. Now I wouldn't recommend this type of material for someone with kids or someone who does outside labor ie contruction etc., that would be a diaster and make for a very pissed off owner.
