2000 Ranger ball joints

2000 Ranger ball joints
After looking at my Haynes manual, then the Tech sticky I'm wondering if the ball joints on my Ranger are even replacable? Haynes mentions that they are integral to the control arm itself - is that correct?

Crud, I'd better pop the tire off and take a REAL close gander at the control arm and spindle assembly then.
From my fumblings it really looks like the upper ball joint is toast but i'd better double check to make sure. It's too bad you can't tell if the ball joints are in need of replacement from visual inspection.
