This is my first post on fte. Ive got a 1984 f150 4x4 and its time to get some new floor pans anybody know of a good website to look for some? thanks, charlie
i cut my floorboards out (they were rusted through) and replaced them with expanded metal (mesh). this way i can keep an eye on my front axle and driveshaft and help place my tires better. also in the winter it outta be nice and warm. i've got an old bedliner rubber mat i cut up to cover the floorboard area so that if i wanna hit some mud or in the heat of the summer it'll protect me from the elements!
Thanks, for the info well since i just got the truck about a week ago theirs alot of stuff that needs to be done how do i recalibrate the speedo on it? the gas gauge doesnt really work for expample when i was goin down the road i had a half of tank then when i made a turn it went down to a quarter of a tank so is it the sending unit going out or is it just a bad ground? how do i find out what kind of gears it has in it the guy i bought it from didnt tell me a whole lot but it looks like its got 7 inches of lift a 4inch suspension and 3 inch body lift. thanks, charlie
the only way to change the speedo is to get a new gear that goes in the t-case (IIRC)
you can figure out gearing by rotating the driveahshaft and counting how many times the wheel rotates around for one rotation of the driveshaft!
if its about 3.5 then it could be 3.55 or 3.73
if it rotates a lil more than 4 then its 4.10s
if its about 4.5 then its prolly 4.56
etc etc
lol thats just th way fords fuel gauges work. mine on my 96 PSD does the exact same thing!
If I'm remembering right, you have to remove the tailshaft off the t case, pop the gear off, put the new one on and take the clip off the end of the cable, take that gear off and install the new, and reassble.
That might be all it takes, but I was under the impression that you needed to change both the gears, the cable end and the drive gear since they're like ring an pinions, you cant mix and match. Maybe I'm thinking of somthing else though, been wrong many times before.
