pinion gear spining
after winding first gear out to 4000rpms gettn ready to hit second, mr policeman showed his face and i instantly took my foot out it still in first gear... as soon as i did this i felt and heard what sounded like gears being grinded, stripped. popped into neutral and everything was fine. put back into drive everything was cool, when goin down hill though i'd feel a vibration as the gears were holding the truck back goin down the hill, i'd put my foot back into it and the vibration would go way. now at home i had my wife jump into truck put into reverse with foot on brake giving it some gas the pinion was spinning makn all sorts of noise i wouldn't wish on anyone. is this the splines on the axles or the pinion gear its self? should i just plan on gettn a new 3rd member with axles. i have 4:88 gears with a spool turning 39" boggers

yea its a pretty sickening sound! almost as if the pinion isnt gettn a good bite on the ring gear. just got back into town and havent done anything with it yet. its a 9". seems to be gettn a good bite forward but spinning (under pressure) in reverse.
